News and Announcements

  • Beginning noon on Monday (March 25), the Alpena office (not Traverse City) will be open by appointment only, until further notice. Thank you for your understanding.

  • We would like to officially welcome Alanna Lahey as our Executive Director!

  • We will begin collecting for the Cherryland animal shelter at our Karaoke (Karaoke for the Critters) and Crafting events. Participants can bring (not required) a can of food for a dog or cat, paper towel, cleaning supplies or anything on their list found here. At the end of the quarter, we will head to the shelter with our donations and learn about other volunteer opportunities there.

  • Please note that our Alpena and Traverse City office will close when the Alpena and Traverse City School Districts close due to inclement weather.

Our Mission

To promote personal empowerment and positive social change for persons with disabilities.

Our Vision

  • A person is not identified as having a disability but is seen as a person.

  • Employers seek qualified employees, regardless of disability and provide reasonable accommodations.

  • Workplaces and public spaces, as well as programs and services, are accessible. Transportation is readily available.

  • Government agencies provide willing assistance and supports.

  • Mentoring and self-advocacy training are readily available.

  • We change how we build homes so that all are accessible, affordable and homes are available near jobs or on a transit route.

Our Core Beliefs

  • Disabilities are a natural part of life.

  • Anyone can acquire a disability at any time.

  • Many of the difficulties faced by people with disabilities are a result of attitudes and environments, not the disability.

  • Disabilities positively affect and enhance the diversity of our community.

  • Everyone should have the opportunity to participate, contribute and belong to our community.

  • Everyone should have the opportunity to express his or her strengths, gifts and talents.
