Disability Network of Northern Michigan is looking for a new Executive Director to replace the current retiring Executive Director. We seek a values-driven, collaborative and inclusive leader with extensive experience in nonprofit administration and management who is also a strong advocate of social justice in regards to disability issues. Having a lived experience with disability is highly desired. Disability Network Northern Michigan is based in Traverse City and serves an area of seventeen counties linking persons with disabilities to opportunities and resources for full participation in daily life. Most of our staff and board members self-identify as having a disability.

The Executive Director is the key management leader of Disability Network Northern Michigan, a Center for Independent Living. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of Disability Network. Other key duties include the oversight and implementation of fundraising, marketing and community outreach. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.
Responsible for leading Disability Network in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board of Directors and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board of Directors to function properly and to make informed decisions.
Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to ensure that strategic planning is completed and implemented, and to engage the Board of Directors as warranted in carrying out Disability Network’s mission.
Oversee Disability Network Board of Director and committee meetings.
Carry out other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Responsible for fundraising and developing other revenue generation initiatives necessary to support Disability Network’s mission.
Responsible for the fiscal integrity of Disability Network to include submission to the Board of Directors of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
Oversee the development of an annual budget for the organization to reflect the strategic priorities.
Work with the Board of Directors on the financial management of the organization in setting and maintaining budget, managing investments and completing a yearly audit.
Oversee the administrative reporting as required by state and federal funding sources.
Responsible for implementation of Disability Network’s programs that carry out the organization’s mission.
Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that Disability Network can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
Responsible for the enhancement of Disability Network’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations to strategically advance Disability Network's mission.
Serve as Disability Network’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media and general public.
Work collaboratively with, and partner with, other Centers for Independent Living and disability partners in the state and local region to achieve increased organization effectiveness in the ability to accomplish its goals and objectives.
Provide leadership to forward Disability Network’s goals in advocacy, education and community outreach as it relates to core services and independent living.
Responsible for the hiring, supervision and retention of competent, qualified staff.
Responsible for effective administration of Disability Network operations.
Implement, and establish as needed, employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of Disability Network.
Responsible for signing all notes, agreements and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.
Oversee the evaluation of all organizational programs including revenue generation against their effectiveness to carry out the goals and objectives of Disability Network.
Provide administrative oversight for staff to be hired, terminated, promoted and/or commended. Provide administrative oversight to evaluate job performance of all staff members. Provide direction for overall operations to carry out the strategic plan.
In collaboration with the Board of Directors, maintain the Board of Directors and volunteer recruitment activities, orientation and development with special attention to diversity of membership.
Maximize the efforts of volunteer membership to advance the mission of Disability Network.
Ensure a productive, collaborative and engaging work environment for staff.
A master’s degree preferred.
Transparent and high integrity leadership.
Five or more years senior nonprofit management experience.
Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors.
High level strategic thinking and planning skills.
Ability to envision and effectively convey the organization’s strategic future to the staff, Board of Directors, volunteers, donors and the community.
Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.
A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results.
Active fundraising experience. Excellent donor relations skills and understanding of the funding community.
Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies and volunteers.
Solid organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
Strong financial management skills including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.
Skilled in a variety of computer software programs and capable of working effectively in an online environment.
Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office Suite programs.
