Munson Healthcare has activated Pandemic Response Level Red for the first time in history.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made essential decisions in an effort to slow the spread of this disease. While cases, hospitalizations and deaths are on a decline nationwide, it is an entirely different story in Michigan. As of November 9, 2021, the community positivity rate in northern Michigan is 22%, which is higher than the state overall and nearing the highest it’s been at any point during the pandemic. Additionally, last week our COVID-19 hospitalizations exceeded what we saw in the fall of last year and is approaching what we experienced in the very worst of the surge last spring. And sadly, we’ve also seen a 14% increase in deaths over the last two weeks.
In addition to surging cases, hospitalizations and deaths due to COVID-19, we’re also experiencing higher volumes of non-COVID patients, some of which can be attributed to people delaying necessary care over the course of the pandemic.
While these serious conditions are not new to us, our resources must be allocated differently. And for these reasons, the following measures are now in place:
Pandemic-related care will be prioritized. This provides the flexibility to pause some services and assess non-urgent surgeries on a case-by-case basis. We’re also able to shift staff and resources to ensure continued delivery of our most essential care.
Outpatient clinics and labs will remain open, but hours may be impacted. Services may also be scaled back as we continue to adjust resources. Munson Healthcare Virtual Visits will continue to be available.
Current visitation policies remain in effect. This is subject to change based on community positivity rate and hospital patient volume.
While we are moving to a Pandemic Level Red Status, our hospitals and clinics are still open, safe and ready to assist your healthcare needs. If you have any medical questions or need help finding a provider, call our Ask-A-Nurse line for free at 231 935 0951 from 7 am to 11 pm, seven days a week.
Our communities have always supported our healthcare heroes. Now, more than ever, we ask you to band together with us and take just a few simple ACTions:
If you haven’t yet received your COVID-19 vaccine, we hope you’ll schedule a first dose. Together, we can help reduce our positivity rate, protect our neighbors and allow our hospitals and healthcare facilities to resume normal operations.
Thank you for your past and continued support of our incredible healthcare team.
