Tap30 logoTap30, located in downtown Petoskey, will donate $1 from each pint of craft beer sold from a special “do good” tap on Wednesday, January 25, from 4 p.m. – 11 p.m to Disability Network.  Each dollar donated to Disability Network during this event will benefit their Access for Everyone project at Wilderness State Park, in northern Emmet county.

Disability Network’s Access for Everyone program raises money to purchase beach pathways to make our beaches accessible and inclusive for individuals with mobility barriers – including those who use wheelchairs, walkers, canes, prosthetic devices, and strollers.  Disability Network, along with other community partners, are working to raise $12,500 to install the Wilderness State Park beach pathway before next summer.

Wilderness State Park offers visitors a variety of year-round recreational activities including 26 miles of beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline and numerous trails.  Beach access projects help build an inclusive community for everyone of all abilities to enjoy beautiful northern Michigan.  Many difficulties faced by people with disabilities are a result of attitudes and environments, not the disability.

Paul, a northern Michigan community member who uses a wheelchair shared, “Thanks to Disability Network, I’m able to go to several beaches in northern Michigan. Prior to their help, I wasn’t able to enjoy our lakeshore.  I had to watch everyone from the parking lot.  Now I can get to the water’s edge!  Thank you for creating more opportunities for me to enjoy the outdoors with my family and friends.”

Tap30 is located at 422 E. Mitchell St. in Petoskey, and you may visit their website, tap30.com, for their full menu and hours.  Individuals can also make donations by visiting these local Petoskey businesses: North Perks, Beards Brewery, Jesperson’s Resturant, dunworkin, Bearcub Outfitters, Northern Michigan Artists Market, Mitchell Street Market, and NorthGoods, or by visiting www.disabilitynetwork.org.

Disability Network Northern Michigan’s mission is to promote personal empowerment and positive social change for people with disabilities, and their work as a non-profit covers 17 counties in northern Michigan.  Disability Network serves individuals with any type of disability, including those with hidden disabilities, such as learning disabilities.  They help children, veterans, aging parents, and those who recently acquired a disability due to an accident live a more independent life.
