WHAT IS GOALBALL?Goalball
is a team sport designed for visually impaired and blind athletes. It was started after World War II to assist in the rehabilitation of visually impaired World War II veterans. Athletes compete in teams of three, and attempt to throw a ball that has bells embedded in it into the opposition's goal. Games consist of two 12-minute halves, and all athletes wear eye-shades and eye-patches to ensure complete coverage of the eye and prevent any vision. This also allows individuals with partial sight to be active in the sport.
See Goalball in action in this quick youtube video, which also explains the rules for this paralympic sport.
