Volunteers Needed for Adaptive Sailing Program in Traverse City

Traverse Area Community Sailing (TACS) is currently seeking volunteers to help with this summer's Adaptive Sailing Program on Tuesday's & Thursday's from June 11-August 22 on Boardman Lake.  Volunteers are needed to assist sailors with registration, set up sail boats, sail along with participants, etc.  "Volunteering with the Adaptive Sailing Program is a great opportunity to help community members get in the water and experience the freedom sailing provides," shared Steve Rutkowski from TACS.

TACS' Adaptive Sailing Program was created in 2009.  The program is inclusive to individuals of all abilities, including but not limited to those with physical and/or cognitive barriers, senior citizens, veterans, and those with critical health concerns.  Traverse Area Community Sailing provides easy access, barrier free docks, lifts, and equipment to ensure EVERYONE has the opportunity to enjoy sailing.  TACS currently has 5 adapted, accessible boats available for community members to use.

An Open House and Volunteer Training will be held on Tuesday, June 11 at 5:30 pm at TACS.  Please contact Steve Rutskowski at 231.590.3892 for more information about the program.
