Lea has a dream. She wants to be a model and actress. Lea lives in Traverse City and is supported by her parents Carrie and Tony. Carrie shared Lea’s dream at a Parent Network meeting, talking about how Lea had gone to a local modeling event that did not result in a job for her.
A few months after the meeting, Parent Network Education Specialist Nicole Miller received a request from the Michigan ABLE program looking for a young adult willing to share their story and serve as a model.
Nicole thought of Lea and partnered Lea and her parents with the Michigan ABLE program. Lea and her parents are thrilled that she was able to reach her modeling dream and share her story. Click Lea’s image to read her story as shared in the Detroit Free Press article, “Savings program gives peace of mind to parents of woman with Down syndrome.”

Support Our Work
Disability can occur at any age and at any moment—in fact, 80% of us will have a disability at some point in our lifetime. Your support will help us to continue promoting personal empowerment and positive social change for individuals with disabilities. For every dollar invested in Disability Network, $13 is returned to our region. Our programs boost the economy, create a more inclusive community, and offer tax savings for Michigan residents.
About Us
Most people equate disability with limitations. It’s our job to change the perceptions and realities that prevent people with disabilities from sharing in the community. We provide training, mentoring and referrals to help people with disabilities and their families live productive lives. We also work on a larger scale, helping governments and businesses make changes that benefit everyone in the community.
