Disability Network Northern Michigan is a credentialed, certified Employment Network offering the following services:

Benefits Counseling 

  • Certified Benefits Practitioner will work with you to determine how working will affect your benefits.
  • Identify appropriate work incentives information to maximize your self-sufficiency goals.
  • Social Security Benefits Information for students, parents or guardians.
  • Determining resources that will assist you with your Ticket To Work and self-sufficiency goals.

Career Counseling and Information

  • Individualized employment advisement, assessment and referral service.
  • Information and referral to Michigan Rehabilitation Services as appropriate.
  • Connection with community resources through Disability Network's “Information and Assistance.”

Job Search Supports

  • Help with resume and cover letter, job interview tips and job search strategies.
  • Advocacy and resources for accommodations.

Financial Wellness Advisement

  • Provide information on special needs trusts, such as MiABLE, PASS and college savings programs.
  • Confidential feedback on social security benefits overpayments, credit card issues, student loans, garnishments and other related matters.
  • Referral to appropriate financial services and resources.

Ticket To Work

  • Through the American Dream Employment Network, we can offer continuity of the above employment supports by professional staff, as well as protection from Medical Continuing Disability Reviews through the Ticket To Work program.
  • Provide options and details of work incentives or savings plans that can specifically provide benefit to youth.
  • Ensure the youth is receiving the applicable work incentives and inform individuals on the impact of work and benefits.
  • Counsel youths and parents about the benefits of work and the added benefits of taking advantage of work incentives.
  • Provide financial tools to assist the youth and family as the youth begins to work and earn.
  • Assist with developing good money habits immediately upon the beginning of a new work effort.

Employment Navigator

We work in partnership with Michigan Rehabilitation Services  and you to develop comprehensive employment plans for people with disabilities, which are customized to meet your needs and desires.

  • Assess vocational-employment goals and identify barriers.
  • Job readiness guidance – work with you to provide assistance and guidance in the employment process, such as job search methods, on-line applications, resume writing, interviewing skills and transportation needs.
  • Guidance as to how employment will affect Supplemental Security Income/Social Security Disability Insurance and/or both, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and other benefits you are currently receiving.
  • Information on the latest work incentives offered by social security and how they can help.

Youth Benefits Planning

Youth, parents and guardians can benefit from having accurate information about the changes to benefits as youth transition to adult life. This can vary from the youth being unsure of what type of job they would like to pursue, questions about health insurance, or understanding other options. Our Youth Benefits Planners can help.

  • Provide options and details of work incentives, income exclusions or savings plans that can specifically provide benefit to youth.
  • Ensure the youth is receiving the applicable work incentives and inform individuals on the impact of work and benefits.
  • Counsel youths and parents about the benefits of work and the added benefits of taking advantage of work incentives.
